HIGH PRODUCTION SOLAR STILL

Nothing says "drink up" like of cup of sun purified water from your solar still. The beauty of this unit is its ability to clean almost any water source.

If you are going to use it for production water purification, you may have to use a pre filter to remove any "chunky bits" that may be in the contaminated water, before it enters the still. Oh, you could pile wet mud into the untreated pan and still end up with clean drinkable water but I have designed this solar unit for continuous water flow, in batches.

No power, no electricity and no pressurized water is necessary to run this unit. There is a gravity fed hopper that sits above the still feeding it the water you want to purify. In addition, this elevated feed chamber pre-heats the water so when it does enter the water pan it is closer to the evaporation point, allowing for considerable improvement in pure water production.

The water hopper feeds down into a rear double pane pre feed chamber that also works as the back water condensation point. This double glass also pre-heats incoming water to a much higher point on it's journey into the water pan, however, because the rear pre-feed chamber is cooler than the internal portion of the still more water will condense there. It is the condensed water we will capture and ultimately drink.

The fed water flow is controlled by an external float switch. I have placed the water flow control outside the main part of the still for a couple of reasons.

- This reduces the total mass of water to be heated, allowing for faster evaporation.

- I don't want evaporation to take place in or around the float switch. Evaporation at our flow control would "gum up" the valve.

I will also be offering some "accessories" which will amplify your solar water production. These include:

- Lower heat booster - focused heat on the water pan moves water purification up nearly a third.

- Inexpensive reflective rear heat shield which amplifies heat in the pre-heated water.
